The Stocking in Oct 2007

It was 4.30am and pitch black on a cool November morn.   I was up and raring to go….(Lynsey on the other hand was still in the land of nod, dreaming of shoes and central heating, instead of thinking about Carp and Cats!).

So with a fond farewell (more of a grunt from Lynsey) I was on my way, off to hand pick my prized Carp.  I’d dreamed about this for some time and now the day was here.  As we arrived at the fish farmers it began to drizzle but nothing could dampen my excitement.  Donning my wet weather gear I gazed upon 2 tonnes of beautiful, glistening carp ranging from 17.5lbs to 40+ lbs and I had to choose mine.  I was like a kid in a sweet shop.  I wanted them all – but remembered we have a quota – just half a tonne.  (Mind you, that’s a lot of fish.)    So, no good gazing, we were in.  With net in hand, ably assisted by Pierre and Jacques (what other names would it be in France), we carefully caught them one by one.   Some three hours later the catch was complete.  All that was left to do was make them comfortable for the journey ahead.

It had been a long day but the drive home seemed even longer.  “Mind that bump” …… “Watch that car” …..  “My babies are on board”……  Finally we arrived, and set to unloading our treasure.  I placed each one gently into the cool, inviting water of the lake – but not before taking a picture or two, (or three, or four…….)  Well, who could resist such fine looking fish…..
